Camel desert tours

Camel tours in Morocco: trekking & wild camping

This type of expedition is a journey deep into the desert with camels and their caretakers. It provides a rare opportunity to experience the vast expanse of the Sahara, its beauty, and tranquility, and to live the life of a nomad for some time. Camels carry luggage, water, and camping equipment, while we trek alongside them. If someone becomes tired, they can opt to ride a camel.

Life on the desert trail: camel tours

During such a journey, we walk for several hours every day. The trekking is typically divided into two parts, lasting 2-3 hours each, with time for lunch and a longer rest in between. Siesta in a shade of an old tamarisk tree is an unforgettable experience!
In the evenings, guides light a campfire where delicious tajines are cooked, and nearby, bread is baked in the heated sand.

Food on a camel trekking tour

Traditional nomadic cuisine is very simple, yet wholesome and diverse. Even though traditionally it is based on meat, every meal consists of many vegetables, too, including lentils and beans. So, it is a paradise both for vegetarians and meat eaters.

Tajines made on fire, bread baked in hot sand and unforgettable Moroccan mint tea will be the every day treat. Nutritious lunches will be cooked and served in shade of tamarisk trees. The tour plan always allows time for a siesta after meal, too.

What does a day on a desert tour look like

Night stay in Sidi Naji: a local place of power

The first night will be spent near the ruins of the ancient village of Sidi Naji, named after a respected healer who lived here in the 14th century.
