Food at Desert Camp Chraika

Food at Desert Camp Chraika

Food at Desert Camp Chraika is more than just a meal—it’s an authentic cultural experience that many of our guests rave about as the highlight of their Moroccan journey. The unique blend of traditional Saharan and Moroccan cuisine offers a delightful surprise for visitors, who often marvel at how both healthy and flavorful the dishes are.

Traditional Moroccan cuisine - simple yet flavourful

Simplicity defines the magic of desert cuisine, with each meal bursting with a rich combination of local ingredients and spices. Our signature dish, the tajine, exemplifies this, combining meats, vegetables, and aromatic seasonings in one communal dish that’s shared and enjoyed with freshly baked bread instead of utensils. Other cherished dishes include couscous, harira soup, and vibrant salads, offering guests a taste of the region’s rich culinary heritage.

Locally sourced ingredients: fresh and sustainable

At Desert Camp Chraika, we prioritize sustainability by sourcing most of our ingredients from local farmers at the M’hamid souk (market), where fresh produce is available every Monday. This approach ensures that our dishes are not only delicious but also support the local economy and promote responsible, eco-friendly tourism.

Nomad cuisine - also for vegetarians

Our chefs prepare both traditional nomadic dishes and a wide vegetarian menu, ensuring there’s something for every taste. Savor healthy, locally sourced meals made fresh daily. Breakfast is included in your stay, while lunch and dinner can be prepared upon request, offering a complete culinary adventure in the heart of the desert.

Enjoy the fun of cooking class with Mohamed

One of our guests’ favorite parts of staying at the camp is the cooking classes led by Mohamed. Once you taste his tajine, you’ll be eager to learn how to prepare it yourself and take this delicious knowledge home!

Fresh ingredients from the souk

To ensure our tajines are made with the freshest ingredients, we often include a visit to the Monday souk to select vegetables together. This social outing offers a unique cultural insight and enhances your experience of cooking traditional tajines.

Cooking among the sand dunes

Our cooking classes typically take place in the dunes near the camp, where traditional tajines are prepared over an open fire. If the weather is windy, we relocate to our spacious dining hall. Regardless of the setting, we always enrich the experience with live music.
